Acquiring Friends on Overstock.com Guides

On Overstock.com Guides, you acquire friends much like you would in the real world. A friendship is not established simply by an introduction or invitation. It is through continuous interaction that a friendship is developed and maintained.

As you begin to use the ever-growing features of the site, you will discover many opportunities to interact with other members. Whether contributing to others' Guides, adding your input to their Discussion or Talk pages, or any other form of collaboration on Overstock.com Guides, those users' avatars will begin to display on your own Talk and Guide pages, within the right side navigation. The avatars of those with whom you collaborate most will be more prominently featured on your list of friends. To upload your own avatar, see here.

Inviting Friends To Help You

During the process of creating a guide, you will have the option of inviting friends who share your interests, to collaborate with you. By entering their email addresses in the designated fields, they will be sent a message from you via Overstock.com Guides, letting them know you have created a new guide and wish to utilize their expertise in writing it.

If those you invite are already members of the Overstock.com Community, they will have access to collaborate on your guide as soon as they sign in to their account. If they have not yet joined the Overstock.com Community, they will be encouraged to do so quickly and easily. Once they have registered via the supplied link, they will have access to begin writing with you.

Of course, you can always enlist friends on your own as well. (Word of mouth, sending them a link to your guides, enticing them with Scooby snacks, etc.) Once they register with the Overstock.com Community, you can add them as Writers by entering their usernames in the Permissions field of your guides. For more assistance, see Help:Permissions.
